Environment variables

Every setting a Posy server reads.

Copy .env.example to .env.local for development. Everything is optional locally. In production you must set BETTER_AUTH_SECRET, BETTER_AUTH_URL and NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URL.

Variable	Default	Notes
NEXT_PUBLIC_SITE_URL	http://localhost:3000	Public URL, used for share links, OG images and auth callbacks. Baked in at build time, so set it before npm run build.
BETTER_AUTH_URL		The same URL. Required in production.
BETTER_AUTH_SECRET		Required in production. Generate with openssl rand -base64 32.
POSY_SIGNUP	first-user	Who can sign up: first-user (the first account owns the instance), open or closed.
POSY_DATA_DIR	.data (/data in Docker)	Where the SQLite file and uploads live.
DATABASE_URL	local SQLite file	Turso / libSQL URL such as libsql://your-db.turso.io.
DATABASE_AUTH_TOKEN		Turso auth token.
BLOB_READ_WRITE_TOKEN		Vercel Blob token for image uploads in production. Locally, uploads go to public/uploads.
GITHUB_CLIENT_ID, GITHUB_CLIENT_SECRET		Optional GitHub sign-in.
GOOGLE_CLIENT_ID, GOOGLE_CLIENT_SECRET		Optional Google sign-in.
GITHUB_TOKEN		Optional. Raises the GitHub API limit for repo tiles.
